Details
The Star of David, or Magen David, is formed of two overlaid triangles. Six-pointed stars were used in antiquity as decoration and as magical signs, and appeared occasionally in Jewish art without being a specifically Jewish symbol. From the 17th century it was often placed on synagogues, and it gained wide recognition as a symbol of Judaism after the Zionist movement adopted it in 1897. Today it is on the flag of Israel.
