Details
Anubis was the ancient Egyptian god of embalming and of the care of the dead, shown as a jackal or as a man with a jackal’s head. Jackals roamed the desert cemeteries, and Egyptians entrusted the guardianship of burials to this canine god. Myth made him the embalmer of Osiris, and funerary papyri show him at the scales where the heart of the dead was weighed before judgment.
