Details
The zodiac’s twelve signs come from Babylonian astronomy. By the 5th century BC Babylonian scholars had divided the belt of sky through which the sun, moon and planets travel into twelve equal segments of 30 degrees. Greek astronomers later took up the system, fixing it to the equinoxes rather than the stars, and astrologers have long given great weight to the sign under which a person was born.
