Details
A tree that links earth and heaven, or holds the source of life, appears in many religions and myths. In the Bible’s Book of Genesis, a tree of life grew in the Garden of Eden. In Norse myth the great ash Yggdrasil joined the worlds, and in early Ireland sacred trees marked the places where kings were made. A Viking Age axe from Mammen in Denmark shows a tree that may be either the Christian tree of life or Yggdrasil.
