Details
The pattern of overlapping circles now called the Flower of Life has a long history as an ornament, from an Assyrian palace threshold of the 7th or 6th century BC to Roman mosaics. A related six-petal rosette, the ‘daisy wheel’, was scratched near doors, windows and fireplaces in English buildings, most likely as a charm against witches and evil spirits. The name Flower of Life is modern, from New Age writing, especially a 1999 book.
