Details
A clover leaf normally has three leaflets, so finding a rare fourth has long counted as good fortune in British and Irish folk belief. In 1620 the English writer John Melton listed, among popular superstitions, that someone who found a four-leaved grass while walking in the fields would soon find something good. Later folklore added that a four-leaf clover let people see fairies, and a rhyme gave each leaf its own blessing.
