Bastet pendant

Bastet was an ancient Egyptian goddess worshipped first as a lioness and later as a cat, with her main cult centre at Bubastis in the Nile Delta. As a cat she stood for the gentler side of her nature, a protective figure also linked with fertility. In the Late Period great cemeteries of mummified cats grew up at her sanctuaries, and small cat figures were worn as amulets, probably in connection with her cult.
